MyDante is Georgetown’s first and only Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform that creates an immersive learning experience for students who want to engage with Dante’s Divine Comedy.I serve as the Chief Product Officer for this MOOC platform. As the students engage with the Poem, they are presented with a visually immersive experience. They are able to annotate the text and engage with it privately and with other students. This product started as a small boutique product that was serving around 50 students per year at Georgetown University. Now, MyDante serves approximately 12,000 users across the globe!
For the first release of this application, I worked with a team of 10-15 people designers, engineers and content managers. I also worked very closely with two faculty members to ensure that their pedagogical framework was implemented in the platform.
I also introduced a suite of Cloud infrastructure — S3 and Heroku to deploy the application instead of compromising on the features that would create this transformational learning experience for students. The app is built using Django and uses Amazon S3 to host the thousands of artwork and is hosted on Heroku.
This project transformed me as a software engineer and it also helped me uncover my passion for designing and developing products with a team. I realized that I was very good at taking the macro and micro view simultaneously and communicating that to the team members.
